Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
1. Introduction
Meros (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a collaborative timeline application. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.
2. Data We Collect
We collect and process the following:
- Account data: From Google Sign-In: email, name, and profile photo. We may also store a generated or chosen display name, and if you provide them: phone number, birthday, and profile/avatar preferences.
- Timeline and post content: Titles, descriptions, media (images, video, audio), text, tags, timestamps, geolocation (latitude/longitude), and location names you add to events.
- Collaboration data: Memberships, roles (owner/editor/viewer), invite links and their usage, and information you share with collaborators (e.g., display name, photo) on shared timelines.
- Social features: If you make your profile public, following/followers and related interaction data.
- Integrations: If you connect Spotify, we store tokens and profile data (e.g., display name, id) needed to attach songs to posts. Image search and geocoding may send queries to our providers; we do not store those for ad targeting.
- Usage and technical data: Logs, errors, and general usage patterns to operate and improve the Service (e.g., device type, app version). We may use cookies or similar technologies as needed for authentication and operation.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (e.g., timelines, collaboration, media storage, maps, search)
- Display your content to you and to collaborators you choose
- Process invites and manage memberships and roles
- Support integrations (e.g., Spotify, image search, geocoding)
- Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and safety
4. Advertising and Use of Data (Future, Opt-In Only)
We may in the future offer advertising or other monetization that uses your data (e.g., interests, general usage, or preferences derived from your activity). Any such use for personalized or targeted advertising will be opt-in only. We will not use your data for advertising purposes without your explicit, separate consent. You may withdraw that consent at any time in your account or privacy settings. If we introduce these features, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide in-product information about what data would be used and how.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy and update the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will provide additional notice (e.g., in-app or by email) where reasonably practicable. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. For material changes that significantly affect how we use your personal data, we may ask you to affirmatively accept the updated policy before continued use.
6. Sharing of Data
We may share your data in these limited cases:
- Collaborators: Other members of timelines you join can see the content and membership information relevant to that timeline (e.g., your display name, photo, role, and posts).
- Service providers: We use providers such as Google (Firebase) for authentication, database, and storage. They process data on our behalf under agreements that restrict use to providing the Service.
- Third-party integrations: When you use Spotify, image search, or geocoding, the relevant providers receive the data needed for those features (as described in their own privacy policies).
- Legal and safety: We may disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or to prevent fraud or harm.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties for their marketing.
7. Data Retention and Security
We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your data in line with our retention practices and legal requirements. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls, and secure storage), but no system is completely secure.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access and receive a copy of your personal data
- Correct or update your data (e.g., in Settings)
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your data where we support it
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g., opt-in advertising)
To exercise these rights, use the in-app settings (e.g., to delete your account or update your profile) or contact us through the support or contact method provided in the app or on our website. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.
9. Children
The Service is not intended for children under 13 (or higher age where required). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you learn that a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers. We take steps to ensure your data receives appropriate safeguards where required by law.
